Breath - Research meeting

LCR Honda and Flow-Meter™ together to study the effects of CO2 rebreathing inside the helmet during sports competition.

LCR Honda and Flow-Meter™ have embarked on a major scientific project to study the effects of fatigue on athletes during high-performance racing, respiratory issues, and the effects of CO2 re-breathing inside the helmet during sports competition. This project not only represents an innovation in the field of sports medicine, but also has the potential to significantly improve the safety and well-being of athletes.
The collaboration between LCR Honda, one of the top teams in MotoGP, and Flow-Meter™, a leading manufacturer of fluid measurement, control, and delivery devices for medical applications, combines advanced technical expertise and in-depth medical knowledge. LCR Honda brings to this project its extensive experience in high-performance dynamics, while Flow-Meter™ contributes its precision technology in respiratory monitoring. This partnership promises to offer innovative solutions that could revolutionize the way athletes are monitored and assisted during competition.
Leading the scientific testing of this project are Dr. Michele Zasa, a resuscitation physician and Medical Director at Clinica Mobile nel Mondo Srl, known for his many years of experience in the MotoGP and Superbike paddocks, Dr. Arnel Hajdarevic, a Surgeon Specialist in Sports Medicine, Dr. Giacomo Bellani, Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the University of Trento and head of the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit at the Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento, Italy, and Dr. Andrea Coppadoro, Resuscitative Anesthesiologist at the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza, Italy. These experts are dedicated to the study of the physiological effects of fatigue, respiratory issues, and CO2 accumulation in helmets, with the goal of improving the performance and safety of athletes.
This page features individual interviews taken from an afternoon of discussion between technicians, Lucio Cecchinello, team principal of LCR Honda, physicians, and Roberto Paratico, CEO of Flow-Meter™. These dialogues offer valuable insights into the development of the project, its challenges, and the potential for improving athletes' conditions during races. The interviews provide a better understanding of the importance of this research and its impact on sports medicine and rider safety.
LCR Honda and Flow-Meter™ are opening up new frontiers in sports performance monitoring, with a project that could mark a turning point in the way athletes approach competition, providing them with top-notch medical and technological support.
